Course Description:
Do you enjoy music? Are you curious about the  music culture from other parts of the world? In this course, students will explore African hand drumming traditions, "Stomp"-style drum circles, and hand bell ensemble music. No previous music experience is needed! You can be a part of this music course to explore fun world percussion ensembles whether you've been in band, choir, or if you have never taken any music classes before. Together we will explore world percussion traditions, learn techniques for playing a variety of percussive instruments, work together as a team to create hand bell harmonies, and develop music reading skills so that we can play small ensemble music. We will also learn about different cultural influences on music, and view and listen to examples of music from around the world. As a culmination of the course, we will have a performance outside of class to showcase what we have learned as an ensemble. As a class we will also discuss other performance opportunities depending on the season, such as the Variety Show, a tour of elementary schools or nursing homes, or other possibilities we come up with.
