IT Youth Apprenticeship

Co-requisite per Semester: (Students should make every effort to be enrolled in a connected class each semester they are in the youth apprenticeship.) One trimester of a connecting course is required.

Certifications: CompTIA A+, Microsoft Office Specialist, CIW (certified Internet Webmaster) Associate, CISCO-CCENT (Entry Networking Technician) Cisco Networking Academy, AutoDesk, Internet Core Computing (IC3), MS-Tech Assoc (MTA), MS-Office Specialist (MOS)

Course Description:  This YA occupational area focuses on all of the pathways within the Information Technology (IT) industry and is applicable for a student who has expressed an interest in an IT, computer, web/internet, computer design, and/or programming career. Career pathways students can choose to include General IT pathway, Network Systems, and Information Support & Services pathway, Programming & Software Development plus Information Support & Services pathway and Web & Digital Communications pathway.

By integrating learning in the classroom with learning at the worksite, the YA student finished with entry level job skills, as well as opportunities for post-secondary educational advancement.
IT youth apprentices will be required to complete a minimum of 450 work hours for a Level One (1-year) YA program or a minimum of 900 work hours for a Level Two (2-year) program. The student receives a state-issued skill certificate upon successful completion of the program.

Special Notes:  Students must apply to the program and meet academic and attendance requirements along with obtaining consent of CTE instructor. Also, students must furnish their own transportation plus proof of driver's license.
